This first post I'm just going to share a few pictures of our first dog, Peter. We believe he is an Anatolian Shepherd mix. At a year and a half, he's around 50 pounds. We adopted him from Friends 4 Life in Houston, TX when he was around 6 months old. The first day we met him was on my birthday, March 20th. Friends 4 Life sets up a mobile site at Discover Green Park every Saturday, so we went over there to check him out (I had seen his adorable little picture online). When we got there, he was all tuckered out. We took him on a short little walk with his fosters and he was so quiet and sweet. He was so cute wearing a little red bandana around his neck too. I totally fell in love with him. Jeff and I decided we wanted to bring him home, so a week later, we picked him up and he came home with us. He whined a lot in the car for the first 10 minutes of the drive back, but then he calmed down. These pictures are from his first night home with us.

Handsome little guy.

We put him in a canvas kennel for a little while. For a couple of weeks he whined all night and wanted to be in our room, but we didn't want to get him used to that. Eventually, he was able to sleep fine.

It turned out that Peter wasn't the quiet little guy we thought he was. He was a real handful. He tore up the canvas kennel he first had. We ended up getting him a doggie bed (further down the page) which he completely ate through. He also managed to chew through various pieces of furniture, our walls, cabinets, etc. Despite walks, playing outside, giving him chew toys, he just wouldn't stop. Soon, it was time to get him fixed. After the surgery, he was the quietest we'd ever seen him.

Resting on the bed he eventually ate.

Still groggy from getting fixed.
Even after the surgery, he didn't calm down. We took him to dog training. That helped a bit though, to be honest, we were not the best at being consistent with him and he is just a very stubborn dog as well. He destroyed 2 library books and managed to grab a container of cookies and eat the whole thing (twice!!!). And that still doesn't cover it all. I have to admit there were times I was so frustrated and angry. We started taking him to the dog park to socialize, and he LOVED it. Always has a blast and gets worn out.

After a day at the park.
We realized that he loved being around other dogs, and it would be great if he had a brother or sister for him to play with at home. Fast-forward to October, and that's when we got Rhett. To be continued in the next post.
